The Odyssey: $17.6M Preview Smashes Projections

The Odyssey: $17.6M previews smash projections as Christopher Nolan’s latest film takes the box office by storm. The epic fantasy action drama earned a massive $17.6 million from US previews alone, surpassing the expected $14 million estimate. This outstanding performance gives The Odyssey the biggest preview haul of the year, edging out Toy Story 5’s $17.5 million.

The Odyssey is an R-rated film and now ranks as the third-biggest R-rated preview opener in history, behind only Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. For comparison, Nolan’s previous blockbuster, Oppenheimer, which was also R-rated, made $10.5 million in previews and went on to earn $82 million in its opening weekend. With The Odyssey’s previews significantly outpacing that, it looks set to surpass Oppenheimer’s opening weekend numbers by a wide margin.

Critics have embraced The Odyssey with exceptional reviews. The movie currently holds a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on about 300 reviews. Audiences have also responded strongly, driving the preview earnings well beyond initial projections and signaling a strong start for the film.

The Odyssey’s success underscores Nolan’s ability to draw crowds with bold, epic storytelling, even with an R rating. With such a powerful debut, the film is poised for a blockbuster opening weekend that could redefine expectations for adult-oriented fantasy cinema.
