Maruti Suzuki Kharkhoda: India’s Newest Auto Hub has begun operations, marking a major milestone for the carmaker. Maruti Suzuki inaugurated its new manufacturing facility at IMT Kharkhoda in Haryana, built over 800 acres with an investment of Rs 35,000 crore. The plant started production in February 2025 with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and later the Victoris. This new hub has an annual capacity of 5 lakh vehicles, set to expand to 10 lakh units.
The plant was inaugurated via video conference by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum. Its foundation stone was laid in August 2022, making it Maruti Suzuki’s third Haryana facility after Gurugram and Manesar. The Kharkhoda plant is designed with sustainability at its core.
The facility uses 100% renewable energy, including 20 MWp solar capacity, slated to rise to 70 MWp by 2030. It features a biogas plant, battery storage, zero liquid discharge, rainwater harvesting, and an in-plant railway siding for vehicle dispatch. Collaborative robots also aid manufacturing. With Maruti Suzuki Kharkhoda, the company’s combined production capacity across Gurugram, Manesar, Kharkhoda, and Hansalpur reaches 26.5 lakh units.
Suzuki Motor Corporation President Toshihiro Suzuki noted India is a vital manufacturing hub. He added that the e Vitara, Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, is made exclusively in Gujarat for export to 100 countries. Exports from India have made Suzuki the largest importer of passenger vehicles into Japan.
