Car Sales September Tata Mahindra

Passenger vehicle wholesales for September 2026 stayed roughly flat at about 4 lakh units, but four of the top five carmakers recorded a month-on-month decline. Maruti Suzuki remained far ahead at the top of the table.

Maruti sold 1,68,744 units, down 4.65 percent from August but up 27.05 percent year on year. Tata Motors took second place with 56,972 units, edging Mahindra, which sold 56,745 units, by just 227 vehicles. Hyundai followed with 49,998 units, and Kia recorded 32,017 units.

Kia was the standout performer. It grew 10.24 percent month on month and 41.04 percent year on year, making it the only one of the top five with growth on both counts. Toyota sold 27,652 units, MG 5,226, Renault 3,399 and Nissan 2,960. Renault also grew month on month, while Nissan posted a 79.18 percent rise over last year.

Product activity was heavy across the board. Maruti launched the Baleno facelift and CNG AMT versions of the Swift, Baleno and Dzire. Tata introduced the Aeris, with deliveries from October 11. Mahindra brought the updated Thar, also delivered from October 11, and new XUV 3XO variants. Hyundai teased the Bayon for October, and Renault is preparing the Duster hybrid for October 17.

With festive demand approaching, carmakers are expected to push new launches and offers to lift volumes in October.
