Nara Lokesh: Rebuilding Andhra’s Green Energy Trust

Nara Lokesh: Rebuilding Andhra’s Green Energy Trust has become the central mission for the state’s current coalition government. Minister for IT, Electronics and Education, Nara Lokesh, stated that restoring confidence in the renewable energy sector was a top priority after assuming office. He made these remarks following the foundation stone ceremony for new projects by Tata Power Renewable Energy and Suzlon in Andhra Pradesh.

Lokesh criticized the previous YSRCP government, alleging that its policy decisions harmed the sector’s reputation among global investors. He pointed out that no major renewable projects were added in the last five years, and the cancellation of power purchase agreements created widespread uncertainty. This, he claimed, discouraged international infrastructure and climate-focused investment funds from considering the state. The work on rebuilding Andhra’s Green Energy Trust involves ensuring policy stability and consistent decision-making. Trust is built brick by brick, project by project and decision by decision, Lokesh stated, noting a renewed interest from both domestic and international investors.

To further this rebuilding Andhra’s Green Energy Trust agenda, the government launched the Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024. This policy aims to transform the state into a major clean energy destination by building a complete ecosystem, not just increasing generation. Andhra Pradesh has set an ambitious target of developing 160 GW of renewable capacity through solar, wind, and pumped storage projects.

The broader vision includes strengthening manufacturing in solar modules, wind turbines, battery storage, green hydrogen, and transmission infrastructure. Lokesh highlighted that the state’s long-term goal is to become a global manufacturing and export hub for clean energy technologies. By creating an integrated ecosystem, the government aims to attract large-scale investments and generate employment. The conclusion is clear: the administration is committed to building a sustainable sector that drives economic growth and positions Andhra Pradesh as a leading renewable energy destination in India.
