Volkswagen Tayron: New Affordable Variant Launching Tomorrow

Volkswagen Tayron: the German automaker is expanding its SUV lineup in India with a new lower-spec, non-R-Line variant launching tomorrow, July 10, 2026. This more affordable version of the Volkswagen Tayron aims to attract a broader audience while retaining the core strengths of its sportier R-Line sibling.

The teaser reveals minor design updates. The front fascia still features projector LED headlamps, a connected light bar, and an illuminated Volkswagen logo, but with a new bumper and grille. The side profile remains largely unchanged, except for newly designed alloy wheels. It also comes with gloss-black roof rails, wheel arches, and connected LED taillamps. Dimensions stay identical to the R-Line model: 4,792mm long, 1,866mm wide, 1,665mm tall, with a 2,789mm wheelbase and 345 liters of boot space.

Inside, the Volkswagen Tayron non-R-Line variant swaps the all-black interior for a dual-tone cabin. It retains the 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, and three-spoke steering wheel found in the R-Line. However, as a lower-spec model, it will miss out on several advanced features, though the exact deletions remain unconfirmed.

Power comes from the same 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. It produces 204bhp and 320Nm of torque. The R-Line version accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 7.3 seconds and has a top speed of 224kmph. The new variant’s performance is expected to be similar.

Given its subtle design changes and feature reductions, the Volkswagen Tayron is expected to be priced lower than the Rs 46.99 lakh R-Line model. It will compete with the MG Majestor, Jeep Meridian, and Skoda Kodiaq. This launch represents a strategic move to increase the Volkswagen Tayron’s appeal in the competitive SUV segment.
