Volkswagen Tayron: Lower-Spec SUV Teased Before July Launch

Volkswagen Tayron: a lower-spec version of the SUV has been teased ahead of its India launch on July 10. This new variant aims to expand the Tayron lineup, which currently offers only the fully loaded R-Line trim priced at Rs. 46.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). The teaser gives an early look at the SUV’s design and cabin, showing familiar styling with a few visual changes to set it apart from the R-Line model.

The front retains the signature LED headlamps connected by a light bar and an illuminated Volkswagen logo. However, the bumper and grille design are expected to be more understated. From the side, the Volkswagen Tayron features different alloy wheels, replacing the R-Line’s 19-inch ones. Gloss-black wheel arch cladding and roof rails remain, while the rear gets connected LED tail-lamps and an illuminated badge. The rear bumper also has a revised design.

Inside, the cabin adopts a dual-tone upholstery theme instead of the all-black interior. A free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and metal-finished pedals are visible. Volkswagen hasn’t revealed the full equipment list, but this lower-spec variant is likely to omit some premium features from the flagship trim.

Mechanically, the Volkswagen Tayron remains unchanged. It continues with the 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine producing 204 HP and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive system is also retained. With fewer features than the R-Line, this variant is expected to have a lower price, making the SUV more accessible in the premium three-row segment. It will compete with models like the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian. This move broadens the Tayron’s appeal and strengthens its position in the Indian market.
