The study highlights that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has a staggering 89 criminal cases registered against him, making him the chief minister with the highest number of cases in India. This data, based on affidavits from all 31 state CMs, shows that 72 of these are serious in nature, including 34 cases under Section 506 for criminal intimidation and 20 under IPC 153. Additional cases involve offenses under the SC/ST Atrocities and Money Laundering Acts, with a total of 160 IPC charges pending.
The Revanth Reddy 89 criminal cases record underscores a concerning trend, as the ADR report also notes that Congress party chief ministers dominate both in criminal cases and asset values. Among the 89 cases, many relate to threatening victims and concealing assets, raising questions about governance standards. Despite this, Revanth Reddy holds the eighth position in wealth among CMs, with assets worth Rs. 30 crores, while Karnataka’s DK Shivakumar leads as the richest CM with Rs. 1,413 crores.
In contrast, Andhra Pradesh’s Chandrababu Naidu ranks fourth with 19 criminal cases, and Jammu and Kashmir’s Omar Abdullah is the least wealthy with assets of only Rs. 55 lakhs. The Revanth Reddy 89 criminal cases figure stands out, yet the report emphasizes that public clarity is needed on such data. Overall, this ADR study reveals a stark reality where top political leaders face significant legal challenges, prompting a demand for greater transparency and accountability in Indian politics.
