When questioned about the situation during a media interaction in Multan on Monday, Pakistan’s ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi stated he was unaware of any developments regarding the PCB central contracts. The board had previously confirmed it would introduce format-based contracts for the 2026-27 period. Under this new framework, male players qualify if they have featured in at least four Tests, six ODIs, or six T20Is over the preceding 12 months. According to PTI, this format-based approach has complicated the board’s decision on which category each player should occupy.
The uncertainty over the PCB central contracts coincides with mounting scrutiny of the board’s financial transparency. Last week, the PCB obtained a stay order from the Islamabad High Court, valid until September 22, after a government agency demanded access to the board’s financial accounts and related details. The current administration, led by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, has not consistently released financial information. Notably, the PCB has not published audited statements on its website since 2023, a practice that was previously routine.
The board has only shared financial data with the media when it aligned with its interests, fueling criticism.
