Shane McDermott: Pakistan coach resigns before key tours of West Indies and England. Shane McDermott, the fielding coach of the Pakistan cricket team, has resigned ahead of the squad’s important tours to the West Indies and England. His departure comes after about a year in the role, and he will not accompany the team for either series. The reason for his resignation has not been officially disclosed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The PCB is expected to name Mansoor Amjad as McDermott’s replacement. Amjad has served as fielding coach for the Pakistan Shaheens and the Under-19 team. A source quoted by news agency PTI confirmed, “Mansoor Amjad who has been the fielding coach with the Pakistan Shaheens and under-19 is likely to replace McDermott.” Pakistan are scheduled to leave on Monday for a two-Test series in the West Indies, followed by a three-Test series in England.
Shane McDermott joined the Pakistan setup in 2025, replacing Mohammad Masroor. His first assignment was a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in July 2025. Before Pakistan, he worked as assistant fielding coach with Bangladesh for three years and with Sri Lanka for another three years. His exit adds to a growing list of foreign staff leaving without official explanations, including trainer Cliffe Deacon and former head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie.
The Pakistan men’s team has frequently changed fielding coaches since Mickey Arthur’s tenure, which emphasized fitness and fielding. Earlier, Steve Rixon resigned in 2019 after differences with the board. The recurring departures raise questions about stability in the coaching setup, but the PCB has not commented on McDermott’s exit. For now, the team must prepare for critical tours without their fielding coach.
