Ryan ten Doeschate: BCCI Talks as Indian Coach Plans Exit

Ryan ten Doeschate: BCCI Talks as Indian Coach Plans Exit. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faces a potential staffing crisis with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and bowling coach Morne Morkel considering leaving after their contracts end this month. According to a BCCI source, ten Doeschate has expressed concerns about the demanding travel schedule, while Morkel is still evaluating his options. The board is in active discussions to resolve the situation.

Ryan ten Doeschate, handpicked by head coach Gautam Gambhir in July 2024, may be in talks with an Indian Premier League franchise. Morkel has not given a firm decision yet. The BCCI traditionally prefers support staff from its own coaching program at the Centre of Excellence. If the issues are not resolved, fast bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji, recently appointed at the CoE, could be sent to Sri Lanka for the two-Test series starting in early August.

Fielding coach T Dilip is also under pressure after a performance review. The BCCI is unhappy with the team’s declining fielding standards. Dilip received a reprieve last year when he was reinstated after being sacked alongside Abhishek Nayar. The coaching staff changes come as the Indian team heads for a T20I series in Zimbabwe in late July, led by CoE chief VVS Laxman.

The upcoming weeks will be critical for the BCCI to finalize the coaching lineup. With the England tour ending and a busy schedule ahead, resolving these contract issues is essential for team stability. The board remains hopeful of reaching an agreement with both ten Doeschate and Morkel.
