Sand mining scam: Akeru brook exploited in Godavari’s name

Sand mining scam: Akeru brook exploited in Godavari’s name has come to light in Dornakal constituency. The sand of the Akeru river is being illegally extracted under the false pretext of being from the Godavari, using threats and fake bills. Authorities granted permission for 30 tractors to make 300 trips without any payment to the government, while only 30 trips are needed for a local road project. Officials like Tehsildar Ramesh Babu canceled the permissions after the scam went viral on social media, but concerns remain.

The false billing involves records showing sand brought from the Godavari, whereas it is actually taken from the Akeru river. This sand mining scam is causing crores of rupees to be lost from the government exchequer. There are suspicions that officials and leaders are complicit in the exploitation. Reports indicate that Mandal officers are taking long leave, unable to withstand the pressure.

Farmers worry about groundwater depletion as the Akeru river faces danger due to the illegal extraction. Locals demand strict action against the irregularities, warning that if authorities neglect the issue, the mafia will grow stronger. Villages are experiencing shortages of sand and water, highlighting the severity of the situation.

This sand mining scam requires immediate response from concerned departments. The exploitation of the Akeru river under the guise of Godavari sand demonstrates a need for stronger oversight and accountability. If not addressed, it threatens both the environment and local livelihoods.
