Darshan Yewalekar: Monsoon Beard Care Tips

Monsoon beard care is all about keeping your beard soft and proper hygiene says hair designer Darshan Yewalekar. The rainy season brings humidity that traps sweat and oil under facial hair, creating a breeding ground for fungal infections, yeast, and bacterial folliculitis. Dermatologist Dr Dhanraj Chavan warns that persistent itching or flaking may signal tinea barbae or seborrheic dermatitis, not just simple beard dandruff.

Celebrity stylist Darshan Yewalekar advises washing your beard more frequently during monsoon—up to four times a day if you normally wash twice—to prevent fungal growth. He recommends using a low-viscosity beard oil for nourishment, as heavy oils like castor or coconut can worsen the problem. For high-humidity areas, 2-3 drops suffice, while drier high-altitude regions may need 4-5 drops to keep skin hydrated.

Six habits can protect your beard in monsoon: always dry your beard completely before bed, use a mild cleanser daily, and consider a ketoconazole 2% wash twice weekly if flakes appear. Trim your beard shorter from July to September, never share grooming tools, reduce heavy balms, and change towels and pillowcases two to three times weekly. These steps help monsoons beard care stay effective.

Dr Chavan warns against self-medicating with steroid creams, as they mask symptoms while infections worsen. Proper antifungal treatment, prescribed by a doctor, may take two to six weeks. Early detection within the first two weeks ensures quick recovery and normal beard regrowth.

Simply put, Monsoon beard care requires daily washing, thorough drying, and light oiling. Maintain these habits, and your beard will remain healthy and itch-free all season.
