Jasprit Bumrah: Ruled Out of Sri Lanka Tests, the star Indian pacer will miss the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins in Galle on August 15. According to TimesofIndia.com, the 32-year-old continues to experience discomfort in his left knee following an initial assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). The medical team has advised against rushing his return, prioritizing a full recovery over immediate participation.
The decision comes after the BCCI medical staff recommended an injection for the knee issue that flared up during the T20 World Cup. Although Jasprit Bumrah received the injection last month, his complete recovery is taking longer than expected. While discussions were held about preparing him for the second Test in Colombo, the CoE medical team is unwilling to take any risks with his fitness.
A well-placed source explained the cautious approach, stating, There have been instances in the past where players have been rushed back to cricket, and have broken down. You can’t take that risk again. Especially with Bumrah. So complete recovery is the only goal and there is lot of cricket left in the year. The schedule includes the Asian Games, a tour of New Zealand, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy early next year.
With Jasprit Bumrah unavailable, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is expected to name a replacement. Auqib Nabi is the front-runner, having trained with the team before the Afghanistan Test and recently toured Sri Lanka with India A. The 29-year-old claimed six wickets in two fixtures, and joins Mohammed Siraj, Gurnoor Brar, and Prasidh Krishna in the pace attack. This cautious strategy ensures India’s premier bowler remains fit for the crucial matches ahead.
