Hyundai i20: 15 Lakh Sales Milestone in India. Nearly 18 years after its debut, the Hyundai i20 has achieved a cumulative sales milestone of 15 lakh units in India, reinforcing its position as a key player in the premium hatchback segment.
Introduced in December 2008 as the successor to the Getz, the Hyundai i20 has seen steady growth across three generations. It crossed the 1 lakh sales mark in 2010, reached 5 lakh units by 2015, and doubled that figure to 10 lakh units in 2019, despite rising competition from compact SUVs.
The first-generation Hyundai i20 helped establish the brand in the premium hatchback space with features like automatic climate control, a sunroof, and a cooled glove box. In 2014, the Elite i20 arrived with a redesigned exterior and improved cabin quality, contributing around 8 lakh units to total sales. The current-generation Hyundai i20 debuted in 2020 with sharper styling and introduced a turbo-petrol engine, later receiving a mid-life update.
Today, the standard i20 is powered by an 83 HP 1.2-liter petrol engine, while the i20 N Line offers a 120 HP 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine. Priced between Rs. 6 lakhs and Rs. 10.63 lakhs, it rivals the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Tata Altroz. Hyundai has revealed the fourth-generation i20 globally, but its India launch remains unconfirmed.
