Vozinha became a global name during the World Cup, despite Cape Verde not winning a match. Playing in the tournament for the first time, the Blue Sharks reached the Round of 32 after three draws, then narrowly lost 3-2 to Argentina after extra time. The Cape Verde captain made remarkable saves, especially against Lionel Messi, nearly leading his team to a historic upset. “We have dignified Cape Verde as a national team in most parts of the world,” Vozinha said. “Today, we fought on an equal footing against Argentina.”
