Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: Team India coach Morne Morkel has made it clear that the team management will continue to back openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, despite increasing public demand for teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to get an international debut. The 15-year-old batting sensation was picked for India’s T20I squads against Ireland and England after a remarkable IPL season.
Speaking on the eve of the second T20I against England, Morkel emphasized the importance of showing trust in established players who have won major tournaments for India. He highlighted that both Samson and Abhishek have performed exceptionally at the highest level, including winning the World Cup. While there is excitement around Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Morkel stated that the team believes in backing its proven match-winners.
Morkel also stressed that selecting the playing XI is not simply about bringing in a young talent. He noted that the team wants to avoid batting players out of their natural positions. “It’s a matter of backing some of the guys who’ve won World Cups,” he explained, adding that the coaching staff aims to build a strong top order suited to current conditions.
Despite not confirming a debut date for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Morkel praised the youngster for quickly settling into the international dressing room. He mentioned that the teenager has impressed everyone during net sessions, showing remarkable composure for a 15-year-old. “When he gets an opportunity, I’m pretty sure he’ll be ready,” Morkel said.
The India team management remains committed to its experienced core while carefully nurturing emerging talents like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. With the second T20I against England at Old Trafford, the focus stays on backing proven performers, ensuring a balanced approach between continuity and future development.
