Tata Motors, Castrol India MoU: Recycling Used Engine Oil is a new pilot program aimed at creating a structured system for collecting and recycling used engine oil. The partnership between Tata Motors and Castrol India was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This initiative will initially be launched in Karnataka and focuses on better handling of waste lubricants generated during routine vehicle servicing.
As part of the pilot, authorized Tata Motors sales and service outlets across Karnataka will serve as collection centers for used engine oil. Castrol India will manage the transportation and channelization of the collected oil to authorized recycling facilities. The company will also ensure traceability and quality throughout the entire process. This collaboration addresses challenges related to the disposal of used engine oil, which is classified as hazardous waste. By establishing an organized collection and recycling framework, both companies aim to support a more efficient circular economy within India’s automotive sector.
Tata Motors stated that the program strengthens responsible waste management by connecting service network collection points with certified recycling channels. Castrol India noted that this marks its first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) collaboration dedicated to structured used-oil recycling in India. Insights from previous used-oil collection initiatives in southern India helped shape this new pilot. The agreement builds on the existing relationship between the two companies while supporting broader sustainability objectives.
Tata Motors continues expanding its focus on cleaner mobility solutions, including electric and CNG vehicles. Castrol India is working toward increasing the use of recycled materials in its lubricant portfolio. If successful, this pilot program could provide a framework for wider adoption across the automotive industry.
