Tammy Beaumont: England legend retires after Lord’s Test

Tammy Beaumont: England legend retires after Lord’s Test. The 35-year-old opener will end her international career following the one-off Test against India at Lord’s, starting Friday. Beaumont made her England debut in 2009, amassing 260 international matches as the team’s leading ODI century-maker with 12 hundreds. Her record includes 11 Tests, 140 ODIs, and 109 T20Is.

“Playing for England for nearly 17 years has been the greatest honour,” Beaumont said. Tammy Beaumont added, “When I fell in love with playing cricket as a young girl, I barely knew that playing cricket for England was an option. It brings me so much joy to think how many girls and boys have been inspired, this summer especially, and how far the game has come in our country.” She emphasized handing over the privilege to the next generation, calling the Lord’s Test a perfect occasion to sign off.

One of the biggest moments of Tammy Beaumont’s career came in 2017, when she was Player of the Tournament as England won the Women’s World Cup at home, finishing as the highest run-scorer with 410 runs. In 2023, she became the first England woman to score a double century in Test cricket, making 208 in the Women’s Ashes Test at Trent Bridge. She is one of only five England players across all formats to score a century in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.

Beaumont was recently left out of England’s squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup, which ended with Australia winning at Lord’s. Her omission came despite returning to T20Is after more than two years out of the format between 2022 and 2024. Tammy Beaumont was also part of England’s 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup semi-final exit. Her retirement marks the end of a remarkable journey that inspired generations.
