Shreyas Iyer: Surpasses Rohit, Ties Kohli in T20I Toss Record

Shreyas Iyer: Surpasses Rohit, Ties Kohli in T20I Toss Record. The Indian captain won his sixth consecutive toss ahead of the fourth T20I against England, equaling Virat Kohli’s streak. This remarkable run of Shreyas Iyer surpassing Rohit Sharma in toss wins places him second only to MS Dhoni, who holds the record with seven straight toss victories between May 2010 and February 2012. Kohli’s six-match streak came between August and December 2019, while Rohit’s best sequence stands at five consecutive wins.

Despite Shreyas Iyer’s consistent success in the coin flip, India have struggled on the field. After a rain-affected first match, the visitors lost the next two T20Is, including a crushing 125-run defeat at Trent Bridge that allowed England to seize momentum. India now need to win the remaining matches to level the series.

India’s problems have deepened with injuries to key bowlers. Fast bowler Harshit Rana and mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy suffered hamstring injuries in the third T20I and have been ruled out of the fourth and fifth matches. The BCCI confirmed the duo will not participate further. For the fourth T20I, all-rounder Washington Sundar and pacer Prasidh Krishna came in as replacements.

With England leading 2-1, India will hope Shreyas Iyer’s luck at the toss finally translates into on-field success. Another loss in the fourth T20I would put India in a tough spot before the decider. The team needs to bounce back quickly to keep the series alive.
