Samson reveals father’s bold decision that changed his career: India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson credits his father Viswanathan’s courageous move from Delhi to Kerala as the turning point in his cricketing journey. Ahead of the second T20I against England in Manchester, Samson shared how this decision shaped his career after he struggled to secure a spot in Delhi’s competitive domestic circuit.
Reflecting on his early days, Samson recalled his dream to play for Delhi after seeing peers in the DDCA jacket. Despite attending trials and scoring runs, he faced fierce competition and failed to break into the state team. One day, after another rejection, his father made a swift decision. As Samson narrated on JioStar’s show Superstars, his father told his mother, “We have to move to Kerala. We are shifting.” He booked tickets within three days, and the family relocated, allowing Samson to begin playing for Kerala state team.
Samson enjoyed a stellar run earlier this year, hitting three consecutive half-centuries and being named Player of the Tournament as India won the T20 World Cup. However, recent form has dipped with scores of 5, 0, and 1. He aims to regain rhythm in the second T20I after the series opener was washed out.
India and England will seek a result in Manchester following the rain-affected first match. India posted 189/7 in that game, powered by Abhishek Sharma and Shreyas Iyer. Samson hopes to rediscover his touch and contribute to India’s campaign, honoring his father’s bold decision that set his career on a new path.
