Prashant Kishore: Direct Fight in Bihar By-election. Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishore (PK) has announced his candidacy for the upcoming by-election in Bihar’s Bankipura Assembly constituency, scheduled for July 30. This marks a direct electoral challenge for the renowned election strategist, who previously worked for parties like YCP.
Bankipura fell vacant after BJP national president Nitin Nabin resigned following his election to the Rajya Sabha. Historically, this seat has been a BJP stronghold, with the party winning consecutive elections there. Recognizing the difficulty, Prashant Kishore is attempting to unite opposition parties, including Congress, to field a joint candidate against the BJP. However, it remains uncertain whether Congress will agree to this proposal.
The Jan Suraj Party faced a disastrous performance in the last Bihar assembly elections, failing to win a single seat despite contesting 238 constituencies. Though crowds attended Prashant Kishore’s rallies, that support did not translate into votes. He subsequently went silent to rebuild the party from the ground level. Now, by fighting the Bankipura by-election directly, Prashant Kishore aims to prove his leadership and political strength.
Kishore has already intensified his campaign in the constituency. While his past as a strategist gives him expertise, the real test is in winning votes. The outcome of this by-election will be significant for Prashant Kishore’s political future in Bihar, as a victory would establish him as a credible contender, while a defeat could further challenge his movement. The results will be known in the coming days.
