Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former India opener turned political commentator, is once again drawing attention for a fitness transformation years in the making, after old photos and clips resurfaced showing him comfortably fitting into gear he once wore during his playing days for India, prompting his now widely shared line about slipping back into the clothes he wore “in the nineties while playing for India.”
The transformation traces back to a disciplined health overhaul Sidhu first went public with in early 2025, when he revealed he had shed roughly 33 kilograms in under five months. He credited the change to a combination of a strict diet, pranayama breathing exercises, regular weight training and long daily walks, describing the routine as demanding but sustainable rather than a crash regimen.
In his own words, the former cricketer said the transformation “was all about willpower, determination, process and a disciplined diet facilitated by pranayam, weight training and long walks,” pointing to consistency over time rather than any shortcut. The comparison photos, pairing his current frame with images and apparel from his international playing years, have circulated widely among fans who remember his aggressive batting and later his commentary-box catchphrases.
The renewed attention comes as Sidhu has been making more public appearances in recent months, including television spots, reinforcing his effort to stay visible in both sporting nostalgia and popular culture. For a generation that grew up watching him bat and later heard his commentary one-liners, the sight of him fitting into decades-old India kit has become a talking point in its own right, and a reminder of how far a sustained fitness routine can take a public figure long after retirement.
