Month-to-month changes in TG: In the 30 months since the Congress government came to power, a record-breaking 24 large-scale transfers of IAS and IPS officers have occurred. From district collectors to top police officials, these month-to-month shifts began immediately after the new government assumed office in December 2023. That month alone, 18 IAS and 35 IPS officers were moved, followed by 26 IAS and 23 IPS officers reassigned in January 2024. This frequency has sparked debate over whether such rapid changes bring chaos or efficiency.
The month-to-month changes in TG have continued unabated. In June 2024, over 40 IAS officers were transferred department-wise, with phased movements of collectors and commissioners across newly created commissionerates, including Hyderabad Police. Key departments like Revenue, Municipal Administration, Industries, Tourism, Disaster Management, and General Administration saw repeated reshuffles. The latest round in June 2026 saw senior IAS and IPS officers given new postings, maintaining the pattern.
Under the previous BRS government led by KCR, transfers were far less frequent. A notable example was the transfer of around 50 IAS officers in February 2020. In contrast, the Congress regime’s 24 reshuffles in 30 months highlight how month-to-month changes in TG have become routine. Opposition leaders argue this damages administrative stability, while the government claims it boosts efficiency and fills vacancies.
The debate on whether month-to-month changes in TG speed up administration or increase volatility remains unresolved. While the government sees these moves as a tool for better governance, critics warn they disrupt continuity. Ultimately, the frequency reflects a bold administrative strategy, but its long-term impact on Telangana’s governance is still uncertain.
