Mirabai Chanu, Lovlina Borgohain: India’s flagbearers for CWG 2026. Weightlifting star Mirabai Chanu and boxing ace Lovlina Borgohain will lead the 124-member Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Glasgow on July 23, 2026. The Indian Olympic Association named the Olympians as flag and baton bearers, honoring their outstanding contributions to Indian sport.
IOA president PT Usha expressed pride in the selection, stating that both women have consistently delivered on the international stage. “It is a matter of pride that Mirabai and Lovlina will be doing the honours,” Usha said, emphasizing that their leadership at the OVO Hydro sets the right tone for Team India’s campaign.
Mirabai Chanu, an Olympic silver medalist in the women’s 49kg weightlifting category, won Commonwealth Games gold in Birmingham 2022. Despite missing a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Manipur lifter remains one of India’s top medal hopes. Lovlina Borgohain, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics and world champion in 2023, is also a strong contender in boxing after winning silver at the 2023 Asian Games.
The Indian contingent includes 124 athletes competing in 10 sports including athletics, boxing, weightlifting, cycling, and swimming. Led by Chef de Mission Rohit Rajpal, the team aims to continue India’s strong Commonwealth Games legacy. With both Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain as flagbearers, India sends a powerful message of excellence and determination at the CWG 2026.
