BCCI adopts: MCC rule changes for 2026-27 season, making several adjustments to domestic playing conditions. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has aligned its rules with the latest Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) recommendations, effective from the 2026-27 domestic season. A key change is that the final over of the day in multi-day cricket must now be completed even if a wicket falls during it, as per clause 12.5.2. The MCC explains this prevents batting sides from delaying sending a new batter out late in the day. According to a BCCI note to state associations, this update applies to the red-ball format.
Another significant change targets deliberate front-foot no-balls. Under the revised playing condition 41.8, a bowler suspended for such an offense is now barred from bowling for the entire match, not just the innings. This stricter penalty aims to deter intentional foul play, as per the MCC’s reasoning.
Further adjustments include the removal of declaration and forfeiture in the final innings, as the MCC felt this was only used for contrived results and harmed the game. For One-day matches, the head coach can now enter the field during drinks intervals. Regarding running between wickets, batters can abandon a run even after crossing, provided there is no intent to deceive, making it a deliberate short run only if deception is involved.
Other changes cover boundary and fielding rules. All fielders must be within the boundary at the ball’s delivery, closing a loophole for leg-side restrictions. The wicket-keeper must be behind the wicket from the instant of delivery instead of from when the ball is in play. Additionally, the ball is considered dead if finally settled in any fielder’s hands or stationary on the ground, giving umpires more leeway. Umpires must also prevent and report repeated use of illegal equipment. These updates ensure BCCI playing conditions stay current with international standards, promoting fairness and clarity across formats.
