Kiran Abbavaram: Shocking revelation about Telugu films in Tamil Nadu. The actor shared a deeply personal and disappointing experience during the promotions of his film Chennai Love Story. He revealed his struggle to release his film KA in Tamil simultaneously, which was ultimately impossible due to scheduling conflicts with multiple Tamil releases. This frustration highlights a larger issue affecting the Telugu film industry.
Kiran Abbavaram explained his ongoing worry about Telugu films in Tamil Nadu. He stated, “If one of my films is releasing, I would be worried about which Tamil movie would be released in competition and the theatre allocation. We all love Tamil stars. But my concern is that our films are not encouraged in Tamil Nadu.” This concern stems from a perceived lack of support from local distributors and audiences.
The actor went further, using the example of director Akhil Akkineni’s film Lenin. He noted, “What if Lenin had been released in Tamil simultaneously? Akhil anna would have got a good market there. This is my concern as a Telugu cinema lover. I want our movies to do well there, just like their movies perform here.” He then recounted a painful interaction where he asked Tamil distributors to give screens for Telugu films in Tamil Nadu. Their blunt response hurt him deeply. “They told me that Tamil audiences won’t watch Telugu films even if screens are given. That hurt me.”
This revelation underscores a significant imbalance in the South Indian film market. While Tamil films often find a warm reception in Telugu states, the reverse is not always true. Kiran Abbavaram’s honest remarks serve as a call for greater cultural exchange and support for Telugu films in Tamil Nadu.
