During promotions of Chennai Love Story, the actor revealed he was initially offered the period action drama Sambarala Yeti Gattu, which now stars Sai Dharam Tej. Kiran Abbavaram explained why he stepped away from the Rs 100 crore project, citing his recent film failures and discomfort with taking such a huge risk.
Kiran Abbavaram shared that director Rohit narrated the story to him during the shoot of SR Kalyanamandapam. Impressed by Rohit’s skill, the actor suggested his name to producer Niranjan of Prime Show Entertainment. Initially, the script was intended for a Rs 2 crore budget, but Kiran Abbavaram asked for a bigger canvas, leading to a gradual scale increase.
As the script developed, Kiran Abbavaram’s films started failing at the box office, and the budget climbed to Rs 70-80 crores. The actor said, “I myself wouldn’t suggest that a producer invest such a huge sum on me. My films weren’t doing well. Even though the story is solid, I didn’t want to take the risk.” The producer still wanted to proceed with him, but Kiran Abbavaram felt uncomfortable.
Despite the lost opportunity, Kiran Abbavaram has no regrets. He continues to focus on projects like Chennai Love Story, which releases soon. His decision reflects a cautious approach, prioritizing the producer’s interests over personal ambition.
