Jana Nayagan: Lowest Vijay Opening in Years

Jana Nayagan: Lowest Vijay Opening in Years has become a major talking point among fans and industry observers. The film, which marks Thalapathy Vijay’s final cinematic outing before his political entry, has failed to meet expectations. Despite being one of the most anticipated releases of the year, the action drama received outright negative reviews from critics and audiences alike. The primary criticism revolves around a bland second half and a boring villain track, which has further dampened the film’s prospects.

Jana Nayagan collected approximately Rs. 80 crores gross globally on its opening day, making it the lowest opening for a Vijay film in recent years. This figure even falls behind his earlier release, Beast. For the star, whose films typically cross the Rs. 100 crore mark on day one, the underwhelming number has come as a surprise. Trade analysts attribute the poor start to continuous postponements, piracy, and the film’s weak content, which prevented it from reaching the century mark.

The content of Jana Nayagan has been criticized for lacking the energy and emotional depth expected from a farewell project. While the first half shows some promise, the second half drags considerably. The villain track, in particular, has been called boring and ineffective. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film also stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol in key roles, but their performances could not salvage the weak script.

Given the negative word of mouth and mixed reports, it remains to be seen how Jana Nayagan will perform in the coming days. While a Rs. 80 crore opening might be considered decent for other actors, for a star of Vijay’s stature, it is a clear disappointment. With no strong content to drive footfall, the film faces an uphill battle at the box office. Only time will tell if it can recover from this sluggish start.
