Dr Kapil Jain: Kidney Stone Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore

Kidney Stone Symptoms: Urologist Dr Kapil Jain warns that ignoring early warning signs of kidney stones can lead to serious complications, including infections and kidney damage. He emphasizes that recognizing these symptoms early is crucial for effective treatment and preventing emergency situations.

The most common early indicator, according to Dr Kapil Jain, is persistent pain that often begins as a dull ache in the lower back or side. He explains that as the stone moves, this pain can become intense and radiate toward the groin. Additionally, blood in the urine, which may appear pink or red, is a symptom that should never be overlooked. Dr Jain also notes that burning sensations or frequent urges to urinate can occur, often being mistaken for a urinary tract infection.

Highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, Dr Kapil Jain points out that while small stones can remain hidden for weeks, persistent discomfort, especially in those with a family history or high-salt diets, must be checked. He cautions that delaying care increases the risk of obstruction and infection, noting that larger stones may require minimally invasive procedures. If fever accompanies severe pain, it could indicate a urinary infection combined with an obstructing stone, which is a medical emergency, he stated.

For prevention, Dr Kapil Jain advises staying well-hydrated and limiting salt intake. He recommends that anyone experiencing flank pain or urinary issues seek timely evaluation from a specialist. In conclusion, never ignore persistent pain or blood in urine; early treatment preserves long-term kidney health.
