Bhogapuram Airport: Special Status from Centre has now been granted, marking a major milestone for this ambitious project in Andhra Pradesh. The central government has included the Bhogapuram International Airport in the Immigration and Foreign Act-2025, giving it official recognition as a premier international gateway. The Union Home Ministry has issued a gazette notification confirming this special status, which places the airport at the forefront of international travel infrastructure.
This special recognition means Bhogapuram Airport will receive dedicated funds from the Centre for its operations and expansion. The surrounding areas are expected to benefit from enhanced development, including better connectivity and infrastructure. Local businesses and commerce are set to get a significant boost as international flights will now operate from this airport, putting Bhogapuram on the global map alongside other major international airports.
The construction of Bhogapuram International Airport has been completed, and GMR, the developer, has already conducted successful trial runs. While the opening ceremony was delayed, the government has decided to have Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate the facility. As this is a joint project between alliance parties, leaders believe Modi’s involvement is fitting. However, the Prime Minister’s schedule is yet to be finalized, with ministers suggesting the airport could be opened by the end of next month.
With Parliament sessions starting on the 20th and Independence Day on August 15th, the government aims to make Bhogapuram International Airport accessible to the public by the end of August. This development not only fulfills a long-standing dream of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu but also promises to transform the region into a dynamic hub for trade and travel. The special status from the Centre ensures that this airport will play a key role in boosting the state’s economy for years to come.
