Actor Manushi Chhillar led a stunning tribute to 150 years of Vande Mataram, while composer Shankar Mahadevan provided the orchestral score. A unique Indo-Scottish musical collaboration called The Cultural Jugalbandi featured sitar maestro Rishab Sharma and Scottish musician Ross Ainslie, symbolizing the seamless transfer of the baton between hosts. The showcase ended with performances by Mahadevan and his sons, ensuring Ahmedabad remained the focus of India’s invitation. Prince Edward formally closed the Games, urging athletes to reunite in India in four years.
India finished fourth in the Glasgow medal standings with a total of 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze, behind Australia, England, and Canada. Despite sending only 122 athletes, down from 210 in Birmingham, the contingent achieved an impressive medal conversion rate. Boxing was the standout sport with ten medals, including seven golds. Athletics saw Gulveer Singh make history as the first Indian to medal in the men’s 5,000m, adding to his silver in the 10,000m. India’s para athletes also delivered their best-ever Commonwealth Games performance.
