Mee Marts: AP Signs Deal for 1,000 Stores is the latest initiative by the Andhra Pradesh government to strengthen its public distribution system. An agreement was signed to establish 1,000 Mee Marts across the state, aiming to provide quality consumer products at competitive prices through existing Fair Price Shops.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nadendla Manohar’s visit to New Delhi. The Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Department, represented by Civil Supplies Commissioner Kannababu, IAS, partnered with the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India, represented by Managing Director Anies Joseph. This collaboration marks a significant step toward expanding Mee Marts.
In the first phase, Mee Marts will be launched in Palnadu, Guntur, NTR, and Krishna districts. The government plans to use the existing ration shop network to offer nearly 70 varieties of quality-assured consumer products at affordable prices. Officials believe Mee Marts will improve access to essential household products while enhancing the efficiency of the public distribution system.
By expanding the role of Fair Price Shops beyond ration distribution, the government aims to provide better services and a more convenient shopping experience. The Mee Marts initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize the public distribution system and ensure essential commodities are available at reasonable prices through an expanded retail network. This move promises to benefit consumers across the state.
