Instagram Crime: A shocking incident in Karnataka has led to the death of a 16-year-old girl after her boyfriend shot her in the face. The boy, also 16, became enraged after seeing a message she sent to another boy in an Instagram chat. The Instagram crime came to light on Friday when police arrested the accused following a missing person complaint filed by the girl’s parents.
The accused, a 9th class dropout from Venkatarayadoddi village, had been living with the girl near her house for about a month in Kempalanatha village, Kanakapura taluk. The boy’s parents were aware of their relationship. On the day of the incident, the boy spotted a message in the girl’s Instagram chat that made him angry. He immediately took a pistol, which police believe he obtained from his grandfather, and shot her directly in the face.
After the murder, the boy got help from his brother Puttamada and uncle Harish, both daily labourers. Together, they buried the girl’s body in a farm field. The girl’s parents filed a missing person complaint, which led to police investigation. The case broke when Harish told a friend about the Instagram crime, and word spread. Police arrested the accused and seized the gun used in the killing.
This Instagram crime highlights the dangerous influence of social media on young people. Even while living together, a simple chat message led to a tragic death. The police have registered a case against three persons under the POCSO Act. It is worrisome that such violent reactions over Instagram chats are becoming more common among the younger generation, making it crucial for parents and authorities to stay vigilant.
