Kia Sorento: Hybrid SUV Launch Nears

Kia Sorento: Hybrid SUV launch nears as the Korean automaker aggressively pursues its multi-powertrain strategy in India. Kia India has officially confirmed the launch of two new models—a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). While names remain under wraps, reports strongly indicate these will be the Kia Syros EV and the three-row Kia Sorento. The Syros EV is scheduled to debut in the last week of July, with a market launch in August. The Kia Sorento, Kia’s first strong hybrid model in India, is expected to hit roads around Diwali 2026.

Unofficial bookings for the Kia Sorento have already started at select dealerships, with token amounts ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000. Positioned above the Seltos, the Kia Sorento will compete against monocoque SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, as well as body-on-frame rivals including the MG Majestor and Toyota Fortuner. Prices are anticipated to fall between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom).

Powertrain details for the India-spec Kia Sorento are not yet official, but reports suggest a hybridized version of the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine from the Seltos could be used. This same hybrid system might also appear in the Kia Seltos by 2027. In global markets, the Kia Sorento features a 1.6L turbocharged petrol hybrid with a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard AWD, available in 5, 6, and 7-seat configurations.

The India-bound Kia Sorento is expected to offer premium features like a dual display setup, Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, multi-zone climate control, Level 2 ADAS, and an electronic parking brake. With its hybrid powertrain and premium positioning, the Kia Sorento aims to carve a strong niche in the competitive Indian SUV market.
