Four Mega Ports: Andhra Pradesh is taking bold steps to become India’s next logistics hub with the construction of four mega ports. Ramayapatnam, Mulapeta, Machilipatnam, and Kakinada Gateway ports are currently under development, aiming to add a combined cargo handling capacity of 109 million tonnes annually. The state government plans to start commercial operations at Ramayapatnam and Mulapeta ports by the end of this year, while Machilipatnam port is scheduled for commissioning in 2025. The Kakinada Gateway port will be completed by 2028.
Construction progress varies across the four mega ports. Ramayapatnam port is 78 percent complete, Mulapeta port is 75 percent finished, and Machilipatnam port has reached 58 percent completion. The Kakinada Gateway port is 41 percent complete. The combined cost for Ramayapatnam, Mulapeta, and Machilipatnam ports is Rs 14,447 crores, while Kakinada Gateway port is being developed through a public-private partnership.
To support the Four Mega Ports, the government is improving road and railway connectivity. The Andhra Pradesh Logistics Infrastructure Corporation has been established to ensure speedy transportation of goods. These measures aim to make Andhra Pradesh more attractive to domestic and international investors, strengthening its position as India’s next logistics hub. The Four Mega Ports will also play a vital role in creating employment, promoting industrial growth, and strengthening coastal businesses.
