The Pakistan Cricket Board has approved a landmark restructuring that allows the Pakistan Super League to operate independently for the first time since its launch in 2016. This decision, made during the 84th meeting of the PCB Board of Governors in Lahore on Monday, grants the PSL full administrative and financial autonomy, marking a significant governance shift. The move was unanimously approved by the board, chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
The new structure means that the PSL to operate independently will enable the league to manage its own finances and operations without direct PCB oversight. Despite this approval, the PCB has not yet released audited financial reports for the last two editions of the tournament. The board also approved the budget for PSL 12 and cleared the surplus budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, though full financial details remain undisclosed.
In addition to the PSL restructuring, the PCB announced a major increase in the domestic cricket budget by Rs1 billion, raising it from Rs3 billion to Rs4 billion. Player remuneration for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy has been significantly boosted, with match fees rising from Rs30,000 to Rs100,000 per match, and reserve players now receiving Rs50,000. An allocation of Rs6.7 billion was approved for upgrading stadium infrastructure, including the National Cricket Stadium in Karachi.
These changes underscore the PCB’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s cricket ecosystem. The PSL to operate independently is expected to attract more investors and enhance the league’s global appeal. With enhanced funding for domestic cricket and stadium development, the PCB aims to improve player welfare and infrastructure, ensuring a brighter future for the sport in Pakistan.
