Rachin Ravindra: Bridging Continents through Cricket
In the ODI World Cup 2023, New Zealand had a remarkable start as they secured a convincing victory against England in the tournament’s opening match at Narendra Modi Stadium. England batted first, putting up a total of 282 runs on the scoreboard. However, New Zealand achieved this target with ease, winning the match by nine wickets with a total of 283 runs in just 36 overs.
While opener Will Young faced an early dismissal, Rachin Ravindra stepped up brilliantly. Devon Conway contributed significantly with a remarkable 152 runs, while Rachin Ravindra himself scored 123 runs. Ravindra’s outstanding performance earned him the title of Man of the Match, and his debut century in the first World Cup match brought him into the spotlight.

He hails from a family with Indian roots, as his father, Ravi Krishnamurthy, initially worked in software in Bangalore, India, before settling in New Zealand. Rachin Ravindra was born after his family moved to New Zealand, and he developed a deep passion for cricket from a young age. He represented New Zealand in the Under-19 World Cup in both 2016 and 2018.
In September 2021, Rachin Ravindra made his international cricket debut in a T20 match against Bangladesh. Additionally, Rachin’s father, Ravi Krishnamurthy, founded a cricket club called Hot Hawks, where Rachin honed his skills. Rachin Ravindra’s connection with India is also noteworthy, as he played cricket in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and formed strong ties with the country.
