Youngster Sam Konstas, who grabbed headlines with a stunning half-century on Test debut against India at the MCG, struggled to replicate that form in the Big Bash League (BBL). Opening for Sydney Thunder alongside veteran David Warner in their clash against the Hobart Hurricanes on January 10, Konstas managed only four runs before being dismissed.

Facing Hobart’s fiery bowlers at the Bellerive Oval, Konstas looked unsettled. Desperate for a boundary after eight balls, he attempted an ambitious shot off a short delivery by Riley Meredith. The ball, drifting down the leg side, struck his gloves and landed in wicketkeeper Matthew Wade’s hands. Konstas departed in the fourth over, leaving Sydney Thunder at 20/1.

The Thunder’s struggles continued as they lost Matthew Gilkes shortly after. Gilkes, batting at No. 3, was caught behind for nine off seven balls by Chris Jordan. Meanwhile, David Warner held the innings together, scoring 41 runs off 35 balls at the halfway mark. Oliver Davies joined Warner, aiming to stabilize the innings with the score at 65/2.

With Hobart bowlers Riley Meredith and Chris Jordan having five overs left, Sydney Thunder faces an uphill task to set a competitive total. Fans are keenly watching if Warner and Davies can turn the tide.
