Saif Ali Khan, known as ‘The Nawab of Pataudi,’ owns the historic Pataudi Palace in Haryana, but contrary to popular belief, he did not inherit it. The palace was originally converted into a hotel and rented out to Neemrana Hotels after the passing of Saif’s father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, also known as Tiger Pataudi. Saif shared in an interview that he actually had to buy the palace back, despite it being part of his ancestral property.
In the interview, Saif revealed that after his father’s death, the palace was leased to Neemrana Hotels and operated as a luxury hotel for many years. The owners of Neemrana Hotels, Aman Nath and Francis Wacziarg, had mentioned that if Saif wanted the palace back, he could purchase it. Saif did just that, paying a substantial amount of Rs. 800 crore to reclaim it.
Saif reflected on this experience, emphasizing that despite his lineage, he had to work hard to get the palace back, as his family had no significant inheritance left. He mentioned that the family had history, culture, and land, but not much else in terms of wealth. Saif’s statement highlights the importance of working hard and not relying solely on the past.
The Pataudi Palace, spread over 10 acres, boasts 150 rooms, including several dressing rooms, bedrooms, and billiard rooms. After Saif’s father passed away, the palace served as a hotel until 2014, when Saif took back ownership. Despite his recent health scare, following a burglary attempt at his home, Saif is recovering well and has returned home safely.
