“Matka” is the latest mega movie directed by Karuna Kumar in the combination of Mega Prince Varun Tej. Let’s see the review of this gangster drama movie.
Story:
Coming to the story, ten years after independence, Vasu (Varun Tej) migrates to Vizagapatnam with his mother at a very young age. How did Vasu’s life turn from there? How will locally powerful people like KB (John Vijay) and Nani (Kishore Kumar Ji) come into his life? In order to know how Vasu grew up and what happened behind the “Matka” gambling he invented, you must watch this movie.
Plus Points:
It must be said that the first thing to talk about in this movie is for Varun. He has been doing different shades as an actor regardless of the results of many films in his filmography. His versatility is also seen in Matka. Varun Tej’s performance in all three shades is good. The body language and manner of speaking are good to match the three shades. Also Varun has cultivated the single take scene with his daughter with good emotions.
Also, Meenakshi Choudhary is perfect in her role. Some scenes between the two are good. Also, other actors Naveen Chandra, Ravi Shankar, Saloni and others gave decent performances. John Vijay and Kishore Kumar, who appeared in a negative shade, did justice to their roles. And the special attraction is not only up to Nora Fatehi’s song but also her appearance in a pivotal role in the film. Also, the way the director has shaped Varun’s role in the film is good. Also, some scenes on him seem very interesting. Also the small twists in the climax are good.
Minus Points:
The theme is fine in this movie but as the story progresses things seem to be stretched a lot. It feels especially good in the second half. With these, only a few aspects of the film seem memorable to connect with the audience.
Also, there is no entertainment in the movie. It goes on in the same serious tone and the drama seems to be more in this gangster movie. Also the elevations are very exciting, but some songs in the film give a more stretched feeling.
The songs are fine to listen to but in a flow they feel unnecessary. Also, it would have been better if actor John Vijay’s role had been stronger. Also the climax seems to be very simple. Matka doesn’t sound very exciting with these.
Technical category:
Solid technical values are seen in this picture. Every rupee spent by the makers will be seen in this movie. At one time the Visakhaani unit was shown to be very naturally eye-catching. The settings but every detail taken by the director seems impressive. Matka was definitely planned in technical terms. Also Jeevi Prakash’s score is good. Even the songs don’t matter. A Kishore Kumar’s camera work is good in keeping with the tone of the film. Editing by Kartika Srinivas should be done better in a fast pace.
The director is Karuna Kumar. Coming to the matter.. He got good success with his first movie and now he came with Matka. An interesting background has been chosen for this movie and especially the way Varun’s role has been designed is very good. Along with these, the precautions taken in terms of detailing are good. But it must be said that he could not lead the film in a fully engaging manner. As the story progresses, it feels like it is being slapped. Some scenes in between are good. Especially some of the dialogues with Varun Tej, the stories and philosophy are good. But it seems that the dose is not enough in the movie as a full fledge. With these, it would have been better if the story had been designed in a tighter, faster pace.
Verdict:
Overall, Varun Tej once again impresses with his sincere attempt in this gambling drama “Matka”. Also the role in the movie is pleasing. But the full film does not seem to be in the range of exciting and engaging the audience. Except for a few scenes, the whole movie goes smoothly. It is better to try Matka with very low expectations.
