‘Devara’ is an action drama directed by Koratala Siva with NTR as the protagonist. Janhvi Kapoor is the heroine. Saif Ali Khan played the villain. The movie was released in theaters today amid huge expectations. Let’s go into the review and see how this movie fares.
Story:
There are four cities in the Red Sea region. Devara (NTR) stands by a village. Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan) is the elder of another village. Devara and Bhaira along with the other two villages are looting in the ships that come on the sea. In the wake of some dramatic developments in this sequence, Devaraki clashes with Bhaira’s batch. Why did Devara turn against them?, What is the reason why Devara disappeared?, Why is Devara’s son Vara (Young NTR’s character) afraid?, How did Varato Thangam’s (Janhvi Kapoor) love story go?, How did Devara’s story end?, What did Vara do for Devara? That is the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
As always, NTR has acted brilliantly in the roles of Devara and Varada (Vara). Tarak’s performance in a dual role is the main highlight of the entire movie. NTR’s portrayal of ‘a man who strikes fear into those who live with courage’ is truly at that level. The film is exactly what his fans want from NTR, and this film goes with huge visuals and ‘wild action and emotional elements’. And according to them, NTR mesmerized the audience with his powerful performance by showing different variations in his roles.
Janhvi Kapoor, who made her debut on the Telugu screen with ‘Devara’, performed very well in her role in ‘Thangam’. Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan also lived the role of ‘Bhaira’. The depth of Saif’s character is impressive. Koratala Siva played his role as a copy of NTR’s role. Marathi actress Shruti Marathe acted very well. Her screen presence is also very good. Srikanth and Prakash Raj who appeared in other key roles impressed. Similarly, Shine Tom Chacko, Ajay and the rest of the cast also impressed with their performance in the roles of Aya.
Although this movie is set in the background of 1980-90, the way it has been designed with a different concept in line with a commercial movie is good. The main highlight of the movie is the underwater sequences in the climax and pre-climax. NTR’s performance in those water scenes also stands out. Especially the shark shots are great. Accordingly, the action sequences in the sea have been designed effectively. Moreover, in accordance with the conditions of the 90s, the background of the characters has also been designed perfectly along with the filming of the characters. The color tone in key scenes is very impressive. And the suspense that runs from the point of view of Devara’s character is good.
Minus Points:
Although this ‘high action emotional entertainer’ with heavy emotions and huge visuals is very impressive. Also, the hype of the movie could not be continued throughout the movie. And the love track between Janhvi Kapoor and NTR would have been even better.
Director Koratala Siva, who has shown good performance in the key scenes along with the main theme that he wants to tell in the story, has appeared slowly in the remaining few scenes. Although there is a possibility to make those scenes more interesting, the director is interested in elevating the emotional drama he wants.
Technical Department:
Talking about the technical department of this movie.. cinematographer R. Ratnavelu’s cinematography work is amazing. Along with the key scenes in the movie, the rest of the action scenes have also been beautifully shot in accordance with the stories. Srikar Prasad’s editing is also very good. And the songs composed by music director Anirudh Ravichander are very good. Their picturization is also good. The background music is also impressive. Koratala Siva has done full justice to this film as writer and director. The film is interestingly crafted with a good story and strong diverse characters. But, in some places, it would have been better if his story had been made more interesting. Producers Mikkilineni Sudhakar, Kosaraju Harikrishna, Nandamuri Kalyan Ram made this film without any compromise. Their production values are amazing.
Verdict:
In this emotional action drama which is a visual wonder.. along with the wild action sequences, the feel good emotions are also very good. Especially NTR’s powerful acting, Koratala’s direction and the good work from the entire technical department… the whole movie was a special attraction. But some scenes are slow and the love story is not very impressive. However, NTR took this movie to another level with his acting and dialogue modulation. Overall, this movie will entertain NTR fans as well as all other sections of the audience.
