Pakistan's Name on Team India Jerseys: BCCI Secretary Clarifies

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set to commence on February 19, will follow a hybrid hosting model, with matches played across Pakistan and Dubai. As the official host nation, Pakistan’s name will appear on the jerseys of all participating teams, alongside the tournament logo.

Initially, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) opposed this move, stating that it would not agree to have “Pakistan” displayed on Team India’s jerseys. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) clarified that wearing the host nation’s name is a standard tournament regulation and that no exceptions would be made, including for India.

Following the ICC’s firm decision, the BCCI revised its stance. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that India would comply with ICC regulations and wear the mandated jerseys. “We will adhere to ICC rules and respect their decisions,” Saikia stated.

This development comes amid India’s refusal to play matches in Pakistan, leading the ICC to schedule all of Team India’s fixtures in Dubai. The hybrid model underscores the logistical challenges surrounding the tournament but ensures India’s participation while addressing security and political concerns.
