The 97th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars 2025, have officially announced their nominations, and despite much anticipation, the Indian film All We Imagine As Light failed to secure a nomination. Directed by Payal Kapadia, the film was initially seen as a contender for the prestigious honor, especially after gaining recognition at several film festivals and award events.

Rana Daggubati, who released the film in India, had high hopes for its potential at the Oscars. All We Imagine As Light had already impressed the British Academy, where it earned nominations in multiple categories, including Best Director, Original Screenplay, and Best Film Not in the English Language. It also made a mark at the Golden Globe Awards, further heightening its chances of being recognized at the Oscars.

However, the Oscars committee chose not to consider any Indian feature film for nomination in any category this year, much to the disappointment of film enthusiasts and industry professionals. Despite its international recognition and critical acclaim, All We Imagine As Light will not be competing for an Academy Award this time around.

While the film’s omission from the Oscars is a setback, its journey continues to inspire and make waves in the global film industry, serving as a testament to the growing recognition of Indian cinema on the world stage.
