Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have a major injury concern with just over a month to go for the 2025 IPL season, as their INR 23.75 crore signing, Venkatesh Iyer, retired hurt after twisting his ankle during the Ranji Trophy match between Madhya Pradesh and Kerala. Iyer, who was a crucial part of KKR’s IPL 2024-winning squad, injured himself while batting for Madhya Pradesh in their match against Kerala in Trivandrum.

Iyer walked out to bat in the 18th over, with MP in a difficult position at 49/4. Unfortunately, he managed just three balls before visibly twisting his ankle, which forced him to leave the field in pain. He was helped off the field by the MP physio and a few reserve players. KKR will be hoping for a quick recovery, as Iyer was the third-most expensive player in the IPL 2025 auction, just behind Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer.

The left-handed batter played a pivotal role in KKR’s victory in IPL 2024, scoring 370 runs at an average of 46.25 and a strike rate of 158.80, making his injury a significant concern for the reigning champions. KKR will be hoping that this injury does not sideline him for the upcoming IPL season.
