According to Policybazaar, an online insurance aggregator, the number of health insurance inquiries from these areas has increased by 50-60% compared to last year. This reflects the growing concern among people about the impact of air pollution on healthcare costs.

Hospitals in Delhi have witnessed a surge in the number of patients suffering from respiratory ailments due to the spike in air pollution. Doctors have also warned that individuals residing in highly polluted areas may experience breathing problems, skin and eye irritation, and heart ailments. Consequently, there has been a significant increase in the number of health insurance claims.

Siddharth Singhal, the Business Head of Health Insurance at Policybazaar.com, informed Mint that there has been a noteworthy upswing in hospitalisations, primarily due to respiratory ailments such as asthma, worsening cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and even instances of cancer. He further added that the average claim size has also significantly increased this season.
