The hit film Lucky Baskar, starring Dulquer Salmaan, has found itself at the center of a new controversy. Despite the film’s success with audiences, Bollywood director Hansal Mehta has made serious allegations against the film’s producer, Naga Vamsi.
Mehta, renowned for his work on the popular 1992 web series Scam, based on the infamous Harshad Mehta share market scam, has accused Vamsi of plagiarism. According to Mehta, Lucky Baskar contains content that is blatantly copied from his acclaimed web series. The director went on to criticize Vamsi for what he described as rude behavior during a roundtable debate with film celebrities.
The controversy began when Vamsi made a remark that Bollywood filmmakers were creating films with the affluent areas of Mumbai, such as Bandra and Juhu, in mind. He also commented on the massive success of Pushpa 2 in the Hindi market, claiming that no one in Mumbai would have slept after the film grossed 80 crores on its opening day. Some in the Hindi film industry perceived these remarks as a direct jab at producer Boney Kapoor, who was also part of the debate.
Hansal Mehta took to social media to express his anger at Vamsi’s comments, calling him arrogant. Mehta further accused Vamsi of plagiarizing the content of Scam for Lucky Baskar. He shared his thoughts on a post on Ex, stating that the film industry should be collaborative and that arrogance only harms creativity. While Mehta acknowledged that Scam has now been adapted into other languages, he criticized Vamsi for not respecting the original work.
This heated exchange has brought attention to the ongoing tension between the Bollywood and Tollywood film communities, with producers and directors clashing over cultural differences and creative integrity.
