Ram Charan’s ambitious film Game Changer has faced significant hurdles at the box office. Released amid massive anticipation, the movie struggled to match expectations, especially with the simultaneous success of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2. Comparisons with the latter and a wave of negative reviews impacted the film’s collections. After two weeks in theaters, Game Changer recorded a worldwide gross of ₹181.75 crores, falling short of the exaggerated initial figures. Overseas earnings contributed ₹30.25 crores, further highlighting the film’s struggles to appeal to global audiences.
In India, the film amassed a gross total of ₹151.5 crores, with a nett collection of ₹128.05 crores. However, daily collections declined rapidly after the first week, with earnings failing to cross ₹1 crore post the second Monday. On Wednesday, the film’s total earnings across all languages were a mere ₹0.75 crore. The early claims by the production team of a ₹186 crore worldwide collection on the first day added to the disappointment, creating a gap between reported and actual numbers, which may have affected audience perception.
The film’s occupancy rates underline its performance challenges. On Wednesday, the Telugu version registered an overall occupancy of 12.58%, while the Hindi version saw just 7.43%. Even in metropolitan areas like Chennai and Bengaluru, the numbers remained modest. The Telugu version fared better in certain regions like Karimnagar, where it achieved a 63% occupancy rate. To date, the Telugu version collected ₹86.59 crores, while the Hindi version earned ₹32 crores.
Produced by Dil Raju under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner, Game Changer was Ram Charan’s first solo lead role in six years. Despite the immense hype, the film underperformed due to stiff competition from Pushpa 2, lukewarm reviews, and inflated initial box office numbers. As the final tallies are awaited, it’s clear that Game Changer didn’t live up to its lofty expectations.
