Varun Dhawan’s Baby John Faces Struggles at the Box Office
Varun Dhawan’s latest release, Baby John, has been making headlines for its underwhelming performance at the box office. Produced by Tamil star director Atlee and directed by Kalis, the film hit theaters worldwide on December 25 as a Christmas release. Adding excitement to the project, Baby John marks the Bollywood debut of Mahanati star Keerthy Suresh. The film also features music by renowned Telugu composer Thaman and is a remake of Vijay’s Tamil blockbuster Theri.
Despite the hype surrounding its release, Baby John opened to a mixed reception from audiences and critics alike. On its first day, the movie earned just ₹12 crores worldwide, followed by a disappointing ₹5 crores on the second day. By the end of its initial weekend, the film managed to collect only ₹25 crores globally. However, with a theatrical business target of over ₹80 crores, Baby John still needs to recover an additional ₹55 crores to break even, a daunting task given the current box-office scenario.
Trade analysts suggest that stiff competition from highly anticipated films like Pushpa 2 is one of the reasons for the film’s lackluster performance. If this trend continues, Baby John could end up incurring significant losses. This outcome has also cast a shadow on Atlee’s Bollywood debut as a producer and Keerthy Suresh’s first foray into Hindi cinema.
While the odds seem stacked against it, only time will tell how Baby John fares during its final run. For now, the film’s underperformance has sparked discussions about its market positioning and the challenges of remakes in today’s competitive film industry.
