SS Rajamouli’s ambitious new film Varanasi is still in production and is set for a major theatrical release on April 7, 2027. The film stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in key roles, and it is currently being promoted in Paris. During special screenings of RRR and Baahubali, Rajamouli gave audiences an early idea of the scale and emotional core of the project.
He said Varanasi will take viewers across the wild landscapes of Africa, the frozen terrain of Antarctica, the divine universe of the Ramayana, huge natural disasters, and striking fantasy sequences. Even with all its spectacle, the director made it clear that the story’s heart is the bond between a father and son.
Rajamouli also shared that most of the shooting is expected to be finished by the end of September, after which post-production will move ahead quickly. Along with the lead cast, the film also features Prakash Raj in a prominent role. MM Keeravaani is composing the music, while KL Narayana and SS Karthikeya are producing the film.
Designed for IMAX and other premium formats, Varanasi is shaping up to be one of Rajamouli’s biggest cinematic ventures yet.
