Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is facing a severe political storm after the National Human Rights Commission intervened in a sensitive extortion and rape case controversy. The opposition has seized upon these developments to ramp up pressure on the state government.
Bhagwant Mann Faces Intense Heat
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Manoranjan Kalia has publicly demanded that Bhagwant Mann address the NHRC notice directly. The commission acted following a formal complaint accusing the Chief Minister’s wife of soliciting a massive five-crore-rupee bribe to hush up a heinous rape investigation.
Responding to the mounting pressure, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kaur dismissed the allegations as completely baseless and politically motivated fabrications. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s camp has also initiated legal action, sending a formal notice to a former judge over the complaint.
The state’s political landscape remains deeply volatile as the ruling party battles multiple fronts, including separate controversies involving sacrilege allegations and leaked examination papers. The opposition continues to target the administration ahead of upcoming political maneuvers.
